Lane closures on Interstate 94 between Dalton and Ashby begin April 30

DETROIT LAKES, Minn. — Starting Wednesday, April 30, weather permitting, motorists will encounter lane closures in both directions on Interstate 94 near Ashby, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Crews will install traffic control devices in preparation for the upcoming bridge replacement project on westbound I-94.

Then, starting Monday, May 5, westbound traffic will be directed onto the eastbound lanes while crews begin work on the bridge on westbound I-94. Through October, there will be one-lane head-to-head traffic through the project area, between Dalton and Ashby.

This work is a continuation of the two-year project to replace the existing metal culverts at the Pelican Creek, just west of the County Road 4 overpass bridge, with span beam bridges. In 2024, crews constructed the bridge on the eastbound side, and this year, they return to construct the westbound bridge.

RR Schroeder Construction, Inc., based in Glenwood, Minn., is the prime contractor for the $6.7 million project. For more information, visit the project website.

All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather dependent and subject to change. MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution and slow down in work zones where workers are present.
